WE WERE

FOUNDED

Since our inception in 2017, MW4A has remained steadfast in its mission to elevate the understanding of autism, developmental, and intellectual disorders. We work towards achieving this objective by organizing a plethora of community events, including charity balls, basketball, softball tournaments, and annual town festivals. Additionally, we extend free health screenings, consultations, and referrals for health and education services.

Our ultimate goal is to touch every individual impacted by these disorders, and provide them with equal opportunities for a promising and fulfilling future. Our efforts are focused on promoting awareness, education, and support to eradicate stigmatization and foster understanding within communities. Furthermore, we aim to enhance outcomes for individuals and families seeking resources and services.

According to the Mississippi Department of Education;  4,763 children ages 3-21 years old have educational/developmental disability ruling such as autism, down syndrome, developmental/intellectual disorder as of December 2017.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) describes developmental disabilities as a set of heterogeneous disorders characterized by difficulties in one or more areas, including but not limited to, learning, behavior, and self-care.

MDE has trained approximately 928 teachers and related service providers through conference training and institutes during 2015-2016, which indicates a growing shortage and need for service providers.
